The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of Rogue Area Senior Computer Assistance League was held on January 12, 2010 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds Floral Building, Grants Pass, Oregon. The following board members were present: President Galen Garretson, Vice President Ron Willing, Secretary Velma Gustafson, Education Director Lou Garrotto, Membership Director Pat Hentges, and Communications Director Murray Johnson Members present were: Vivian Dagnan, Laura Dunwald, Jane Frincke, Arlie Smith , Audrey Williams, and Betty Buskirk.

Secretary's Report: Velma Gustafson reported:

The minutes of the December 2009 Board of Directors meeting were approved and placed on the RASCAL website.

Treasurer's Report: Naomi Carlson reported:

She has still been having trouble getting billing information to complete her financial records. We have $22,946.00 in our checking, savings, and CDs. This was discussed. We are in good shape

Membership Director's Report: Pat Hentges reported:

We have 881 members at the end of 2009. 23 new in December. She requested to help Audrey to generate the membership reports. This was agreed upon and the process discussed. She will e-mail copies of the membership report to members that request them.

Education Director's Report: Lou Garrotto suggested:

That we establish a one thousand dollar scholarship to someone going to college or a high school student that wants to go to college. He talked about ordering bumper stickers to advertise RASCAL. He complained about our sound system and suggested that we borrow a Karaoke machine and use it to see if the sound improves. If it does, we should buy one. It was suggested that one thousand dollars was an excessive amount. Five hundred is reasonable. The sound system has been working pretty well and a Karaoke would probably not help.

Membership funds should not be used for this, especially with the declining economy. We should raise the money through sales, etcetera, and try to get a grant. Tee shirts with our name was suggested. Ron will check on bumper sticker prices. Lou wants to make a bigger footprint in the city. He wants three people to determine the feasibility of this. Ron Willing offered to work on this. Galen Garretson will help, and Lou will be the third person.

Communications Director's Report: Murray Johnson had no report.

Vice President's Report: Ron Willing had no report.

President's Report: Galen Garretson reported:

He wants opinions of board members opinion on Windows 7. Soft grade update on one of our lap tops or the purchase of a new lap top with Windows 7 on it. This was discussed. Tom Crittenden should be consulted to see if it is stable enough now. We have a lap top that has XP and Vista on it. We could take off XP and add Windows 7.

Historian: Vivian Dagnan reports:

RASCAL will have our 20th anniversary this year. The radio station KJO highlight s events of non-profit orginazations. She wants to contact them to spotlight us. She wants someone to volunteer to talk about our group on the radio. Also she suggested that we need to contact the Courier Newspaper. They did a good article on us on our 15th anniversary. She will be gone for six weeks and will do a summary of the requirements of both organizations when she gets back and this will be followed up on.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted
Velma Gustafson, Secretary
