The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of Rogue Area Senior Computer Assistance League was held on January13, 2009 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds Floral Building, Grants Pass, Oregon. The following board members were present: President Ron Willing, Secretary Velma Gustafson, Treasurer Jo Cornelius, Membership Director Maggie Robson, Education Director Judy Engel, and Communications Director Galen Garretson. Members present included Naomi Carlson, Ted Hoogenbasch, Jeannette Daily, Laura Dunwald, Lannie Harkins, Betty Buskirk, Audrey Williams, and Jo Cornelius. Guest speaker, Linda Blower President Willing introduced Linda Blower from RCC who spoke about scholarship funding and RASCAL members registering for RCC classes. Secretary's Report: Velma Gustafson reported as follows: The minutes of the March 2009 Board of Directors meeting were approved and placed on the RASCAL website. She stated her computer was being worked on and she would not get it back for over a week. The minutes will be sent out late. Please be patient. Treasurer's Report: Jo Cornelius reported: Our total expenses are down. We are ahead this year over $948.00. A portion of that can be contributed to coffee. It looks like membership dues are up some. Overall most of the expenses are down except for miscellaneous expense which is going to happen from year to year. Overall, we are in pretty good condition. In January 09 we printed 875 newsletters. We mailed out 726. Our bulk mail costs are $.34, printing $ .30 totaling $.64 each. If we would reduce this by 100 and print up only 775 it would help. We've only got 743 membership households. This was discussed. Also the money we are saving by members getting their news online. We have 100 printed for the newcomers desk. We do not get that many newcomers each month. It was decided to try to reduce the amount printed by at least 75 depending on the costs and printing requirements of the printing company. Ron will handle this. Membership Director's Report: Maggie Robson reported: We have 815 individual members. We have 43 new members this month, and 54 renewed. Education Director's Report: Judy Engel reported: She was concerned with the age membership question of a RASCAL couple being RCC students and this had already been discussed when Linda Blower from RCC spoke. Judy will not be at the next board meeting due to jury duty. Communications Director's Report: Galen Garretson questioned what is a member household? Husband and wife. Then 915 members are separate people, meaning husband and wife are separated as members. Look at it as addresses versus people. 743 mailings are couples, singles, whatever. Take 915, subtract 743. He forwarded information regarding people that use Smartwire with RASCAL discounts that are not members to Kevin. It is a substantial number. Vice President's Report: President's Report: Bob Booth is on vacation. Title Report: Ron Willing has nothing further to add. Member's Report: Naomi Carlson asked about the program Word 2007 it's costs, and will it work like 2003 so members can receive information from a 2007 program with a 2003 program. This was discussed. Ron will look into this. He also will check to see if we can get a multi license application. The meeting was adjourned at 12:20 p.m.
