The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of Rogue Area Senior Computer Assistance League was held on January13, 2009 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds Floral Building, Grants Pass, Oregon. The following board members were present: President Ron Willing, Secretary Velma Gustafson, Treasurer Jo Cornelius, Membership Director Maggie Robson, Education Director Judy Engel, and Communications Director Galen Garretson. Members present were: Audrey Williams, Naomi Carlson, Laura Dunwald, and Jeannette Daily. The meeting began at 11:42 hrs. Secretary's Report: Velma Gustafson reported as follows: The minutes of the January 2009 Board of Directors meeting were approved and placed on the RASCAL website. We received a thank you from Lou Lyons for the 2GB Flash Drive that was a volunteer gift from the Business Meeting. He was too ill to attend and it was mailed to him. He hopes to get better real soon. Treasurer's Report: Jo Cornelius reported: Our income for January was $473.87, so we made considerably more than last year. Last year we had $11.67. Of that, the biggest increase was in membership dues. We have total assets of $23,310.03 and we have the same on our liabilities so we are in balance and progressing right along. Membership Director's Report: Maggie Robson reported: We have 892 RASCALS altogether; we have 39 new ones, and 54 renewals. This was discussed. Education Director's Report: Judy Engel reported: They would like to start limiting lab classes to 12 instead of 15 because there are only 14 computers, and there is always one or two that is not working. The teachers that teach in the lab prefer only 12. If they get a last minute student they will have a computer to accommodate them. All agreed this is a good idea. Communications Director's Report: Galen Garretson reported we have alias e-mails in the club that would be forwarded to a persons e-mail account. We have a lot of these free addresses if anyone can use them. Also, he and Bob Booth went to Smart Wire and obtained a list of members that are using RASCAL member discounts. He passed out a list of people that are using this service at the club rate who may not still be members. He could not find these names on our RASCAL membership list and would depend on others to verify this. There are over 40 people that are paying the RASCAL rate that are not believed to be members, so Smart Wire is losing six dollars per month on each; approximately $240.00 per month. It is a better deal for them to rejoin the club at $15.00 per year than pay Smart Wire the extra fees per month. This was discussed. Smart Wire will notify these people. He asked if RASCAL would consider an advocate committee for seniors with problems. It was noted that there is a local agency in Grants Pass that already does this. Vice President's Report: Bob Booth not present. Title Report: Ron Willing reported: Ron said their car club is interested in helping young people with an interest in cars. RCC has a grant called RCC Foundation that is separate from the school. They go through a lot of money in scholarships every year. He thinks we should look into something like that. One would have to consider how to raise the money. This was discussed A recipe book consisting of recipes from members was considered. Ron will bring this up at the next general meeting for their approval. The meeting was adjourned at 12:05 p.m.
