An Adobe .pdf is More Than an Image!
Our Newsletters on this website are pdfs. We're all familiar with looking at them - in living color - but few know how handy they can
be as an information treasure. We know they are full of articles. What we may not know is
how to find the articles we want.
Step 1: Finding the Newsletters on line.
Newsletter lists all the newsletters that are on the web site from October 2003 thru December 2009.
You can read the files on your browser, and you can even use the Find command to locate information in a file.
But that's just the beginning.

Step 2: Saving Newsletters on your own computer.
Once you can see a whole newsletter in your browser that whole file is on your computer.
The next step is to save it where you can find it again. Why? Because then you will be
looking at it using the Adobe Reader, which will bring it up very quickly, and which allows you to search it.

Step 3: Searching the Newsletters.

When you open the file in the Adobe Reader click the Edit button to display drop-down menu.
Choosing 'Search' will open the menu on the left below. There you may choose whether to search in the current document or in ALL the documents in a folder.
After you enter the 'word or phrase' to search for, you have 4 other options including 'whole words only' and 'case-sensitive'.
Advanced search options are shown in the menu on the right below.

Step 4: How it Works.

I have put the first 3 newsletters of 2009 into one folder, and opened the January pdf file.
I wanted to search the folder for the word 'Free', so I had click 'All PDF Documents in', and change the location of the folder.
This is a little tricky if your folder isn't in My Documents. If you click in that box there is a drop-down menu that has 'Browse for Location...' down a ways. I clicked on that and found my folder.
Now I entered 'Free' and chose 'Whole words only' and 'Case sensitive'. The results are shown on the left.
